Mirriam Nicole Rose Hamilton was born at home in Oregon on July 2, 2000

When Mirriam was 7 days old, her Newborn Metabolic Screening showed that she has the Hemoglobin E trait.

At 9 months old, it was found that her head had not grown in proportion to her body.

At 18 months old, she was developmentally delayed.

Many many tests, doctors and mayhem later, Miri was found to have Smith Magenis Syndrome

In Mirriam’s case, she has an 18 Allele CAG Repeat, and a missense mutation of the RAI1 gene

What this all means, is that Mirriam is significantly developmentally delayed,  has severe behaviour patterns, is mildly mentally retarded, with an inverted melatonin cycle that causes major sleep disturbances.

It’s a rollercoaster of epic proportions, days can be a joy, or the depths of despair… and it’s a never ending road.

Miri lives at home with her mom, dad, sister, brother 5 cats and 7 budgies.
